These cleats are great for new riders. To use them, first attach the cleats to your mtb shoes using the 2 - hole bolt pattern. Then, clip your shoes onto the Crankbrothers clip - in pedals. When you want to unclip, the 10° release angle makes it really easy. Just apply a bit of pressure and your foot will come free. As for maintenance, keep the cleats clean and dry. Check the plastic spacing shims regularly for any signs of wear. If they're damaged, replace them right away. Also, make sure the connection between the cleats and the pedals is tight to ensure safety while riding.
