When wearing, ensure it covers your ears and neck well to get the most protection from the cold. As for maintenance, you can machine - wash it in cold water with mild detergent. Avoid using bleach as it may damage the fabric. After washing, hang it to dry. Don't put it in the dryer as high heat can shrink or deform the balaclava.
