Using the BBT - 9 is easy. First, figure out which end of the tool to use. The end with the part that fits the 16 notches of the bottom bracket cups is for the cups. The other end with the bit for the 8 internal splines is for the crank arm adjustment cap. When you're removing or installing the bottom bracket, make sure the tool is properly seated. If it's not, you might damage the parts. Also, don't use too much force right away. Start gently and gradually increase the pressure. For maintenance, after each use, clean the tool with a dry cloth to remove any dirt or grease. You can also apply a little bit of lubricant to keep it working smoothly.
